Hey, we are talking about great word choices when you're writing that speech and public speaking. And, I want to talk to you for a minute about familiar words, we've mentioned this before. What I'm talking about when I'm talking about familiar words, and this is where it's going to be real important for you to know your audience. What does your audience know? You want to use words that they're going to understand. I'm going to give you and example: One time a student of mine did a fabulous speech on open heart surgery. Didn't understand a word of it! Not because they were speaking too fast, but; because they were using "doctor words, big doctor words." I'm not a doctor, okay. It was not familiar language for me, okay. It would have been a great speech if he had taken those words, those big doctor words and put them in layman's terms, okay. You're speaking to a group of plumbers, how do plumbers talk? Okay, we've got to know some demographics, we've got to find out what we all have in common. What is familiar to all of us? And, that's how you choose your words for your speech for your college class room. Okay?
