Using Specific Words in Public Speaking

Hey there we are talking about words and we've already established that we want to use specific, concrete, familiar words, but now I want to talk to you for a minute about narrowing them down. Getting them really specific to clarify the meaning, OK? What I mean by clarifying the meaning, we could say, 'the car'. OK, that gives us a certain amount of information. Or we could say 'the make and model of the car'. Hey, that gives us more information. Or we could say 'the make and model of the car that is green'. Even more information. Or 'the make and model of the car that is green with a hatchback and a flat tire'. OK, so that's what you want to do. Get it specific. You have to assume that we don't know, or never assume, if you will. OK, you always have to remember that no matter how much we know, we don't know as much as you know, because you know. You did the research. You're talking from your experience, they are your words, but we're not inside your head, nor will we ever be, OK? So bring it down, make it clear, get specific.
