About Word Choice in Public Speaking

Hi there, it's Tracy Goodwin, the red sweater lady. Today we're going to talk about all about wording in public speaking. Words. Word. What is a word? Well, words are very important. That's what we're going to talk about today. There's all kinds of uses of words and language and I want to show you some different things that you can do. First of all, we're going to talk about different kinds of words, different kinds of jargon, kinds of slang, you know, what's up? You know, slang. Sentence structure, how to present information where it's not just like thought. Now see, words are different than thoughts. We think a certain way. Like, I'm thinking right now, but I don't necessarily want to present my thoughts. I need to make them more interesting, I need to make them more flowery. I need to make them more exciting. I need to make them more vivid. I need you to want to listen to me. So words and the structure of those words is really important. Now there's a whole lot to this, but it sure is fun. So come on, I'll show you.
