Lowering Car After Changing Rear Differential Fluid

In this clip we're going to talk about the proper way to change your oil in your rear differential. In this clip we're going to talk about the proper service procedure for re-jacking our vehicle, getting it off the jack stands, and setting it back down after a rear axle service. I have my heavy duty floor jack here. I'm going to slide it under the vehicle and I'm aiming for the center of gravity. It'll be right dead on below this bolt here on the differential case. I'm going to tighten up the pump screw on my jack. Give it a couple pumps to make contact and Jack it up. What we're doing is taking the weight off of our jack stands so I can remove them from under the vehicle. Once you have them up off of the jack stands you can reach under and flip the mechanism release. Flip the lever up which will release the tooth mechanism, just slide your jack stand away, and we'll go over to the one on the passenger side of the vehicle. That's right here and slide it out of the way. Once you have your jack stand removed from the vehicle your not going to want to get back underneath it. There is no more mechanical safety devices holding it up and it is possible, even for a brand new jack, to fail hydraulically. Once we're out from underneath it your going to release the pressure on your jacking screw very gently and slowly so the vehicle settles to the ground and doesn't drop right away. There you go. That is the proper service procedure for re-jacking your vehicle, removing your stands, and setting it down.
