Tips for Interesting Speech Topics

Okay, next let's take a look at what you like. What do you like? Surely you like something. You've got to like something. Everybody likes something. We've taken a look at our audience and they like a lot of different things. So now we have a lot of room to play. The first thing you want to do is get you out a piece of paper and make a list of everything that you like. So you like cats, great. You like dogs, great. You like video games, even better. Okay? What you want to do is write a list of everything you like or that you know something about. So lets' say your list... you only come up with three things. Well what you're really shooting for is to brainstorm about twenty. Well you say to me "well, I don't really like twenty things." That's okay. Flip through some magazines. Look at the newspaper, or even better yet, jump on the web. Do a search. There will be clues along the way of things that you didn't even realize that you liked, but that you like. And all of the sudden you've got music, you've got dancing, you've got art, you've got everything imaginable that you like. Okay? That's where we start when we're going to pick our topic... is come up with everything that we like or we think our audience might like but we know something about it and have an interest in it. Because remember, if you're not interested in it, you're going to get tired of working on it, and you're not going to have the passion that you're going to need to deliver it.
