What are Genetically Modified Foods?

Genetically modified organisms are organisms that a manufacturer was taking, taken one gene from one product and put it into another product to enhance or maybe possibly create another product. So an example of that would be this broccolini. Broccoli the gene from Chinese kelp was inserted into the broccoli and then you get a long stem broccoli that grows. Sometimes you'll also see a product in the grocery store called a grapple. And that maybe an apple may have the grape gene inserted in it, so you'll have an apple grape. Foods that have been genetically modified are not always easily recognized like this. Many products can be genetically modified like corn in a can, it is not required that the food manufacturers put on the product or put in the nutritional claim to let the consumers know that a product was genetically modified. If you're concerned about food being genetically modified, you can contact the manufacturer to try to find out that information or you can simply buy just an organic product and know it would not be genetically modified.
