Designing a Mosaic Pattern
Now I'm going to show you how to design your mosaic bookend. I've made a little pattern of the space that we'll be covering here so that we can work flat on the table. So this is the same space and we'll just sort of do our design here and later we'll transfer it to the bookend. You want to start your designing, we're doing a random design here. Lots of bits and pieces. But you may have some larger design elements. So you want to place those first where you think you want them to be. And also, anything with strong color that you want to also place. And then we'll fill in all around it with our different colors and pieces. And it's really a matter of preference what you like the, how it looks, and when you see it, how it feels. You can move the pieces around. You'll put a piece here and say "I don't like that" and you'll put a new piece in and just fill it in this close. Now you want to keep in mind how big the spaces are between the pieces because that will affect the design and think about what color grout you'll be using because that will also change the color of the whole piece and the design of the whole piece. So, we're just going to continue to fill in here. And then we'll be transferring this onto our bookend.
