Gluing the Bottom of Decoupage Bookends
Our decoupage is dry. Now, I'm going to trim the edge with a pretty ribbon. I've chosen a nice gross grain ribbon that will fit exactly on the edge of the bookend here. You'll want to trim off any rough edges, nice, and straight. We'll use a good amount of a thick, fast drying, clear drying craft glue. Then, you'll want to just smooth it out so it's nice and even. You could wait just a few seconds to let it dry just a bit to be tacky. Then for this side, we're going to start at the bottom and the top piece is going to come down and overlap the bottom. So, I'm not going to put the ribbon right to the edge. I'm just going to bring it in maybe a 1/8 of an inch from the edge. Then that will be covered over. That way we won't have anything fraying or anything sticking out at the end. When that's adhered nicely, we'll just turn it over. Again, a good amount of glue and then smooth it out nice and evenly. That should be a little bit tacky to the touch, nice and thick. You don't want it to be a watery glue because it will soak through the ribbon. You want a nice thick, tacky glue. If you have a wetter glue, just wait. Put the glue on and wait a few minutes just until it becomes tacky, you can do that also. You want to avoid the glue soaking through the ribbon. So, continue on like this and then trim the end. Then we'll do the ribbon around the top.
