Prepping Wood for Decoupage Bookends
We're going to start by preparing our wood base. Now, the wood base that I'm using is made of MDF board. I had the boards cut at a local lumbar yard, 5 inches by 4 inches. Then, I glued them together putting one piece on top of the other so that this upper piece is a littler bit longer than the lower base. Just as long as the thickness of the board. I've glued it and drilled holes and screwed the boards together so that I have a nice strong bookend. Now we're going to paint it, put a nice strong acrylic paint on it. Before you paint it, you might want to sand it and take off the rough edges, any rough edges and any imperfections that you have on that wood. Then after the sanding, when you are satisfied that it is smooth and neat, you'll want to wipe it off with a dust free cloth so that the dust doesn't get into your paint. Now, I'm going to put a base coat of white acrylic paint on our decoupage book end. We're going to paint all surfaces except for the bottom. We'll be putting a non skid surface on the bottom. So, you just put a nice coat of paint on that. If you feel that you need two coats of paint, that's fine. Let it dry in between coats. You want to make sure that the paint is thoroughly dry before you start your decoupage. It is a good idea to let it dry over night.
