Quick Hairstyling for TV & Movie Production

Hi, my name is Sonja Gjokaj. I'm the owner of Gjokaj makeup and I'm here with Expert Village to talk to you about Makeup for Production. If you have to work in production as a makeup artist, often times you are asked also to take a look at the client?s hair or the talents hair and I know that a lot of makeup artists don't really like to call themselves makeup artists and hair stylists, but sometimes you just can't get around. To just bring a little bit of life into the hair, what I often like to do is just use a few spritzes of hair spray and you can actually just tilt your head down, I'll show you right now, what you want to do is again, watch the cameras, watch the light, you always want to announce you're going to spray something if that is in the middle of the set or if you're just running and doing a quick touch up. So, what you want to do is just spray the roots, or spritz the roots I should say, you really don't want to go crazy. You just want to lift the roots and give a little bit of volume. And so you can flip your head back. That actually gives you already a little bit of volume. Another product that I really love in my kit if I every just need to take care of a few fly always, is a shine spray that actually also contains a little bit of silicone and it will get rid of all these little stray fly-always, we call them in the industry. So what I often like to do is just spray a little bit right on my hand and then go over these little guys. In a lot of cases, people shoot in front of a green screen; that screen is basically going to be replaced with a new back drop digitally and there would be just a lot of post production work going on if you see all these little fine hairs sticking out. So, I've decided to maybe give Shana a little bit more of a conservative look and tie her hair back.
