Getting Off the Ground in a Butterfly Kick

Okay, in this next section that we're going to see, we're going to work on getting off the ground by picking up our head and kicking our leg straight up in the air and that's going to really start giving us power and get the feel of what it's going to be like coming off the ground. Now remember when you land your Wushu, it's going to be on one leg, so when you do this in practice, it's going to be good. So we shoot ourselves up and come down on one leg. Okay, so let's go ahead and put together what we have so far. Ready, our step, step, dip, and come up. Now when we do this let's start practicing getting up into the air. So we're going to dip, kick, and jump, as I just did. You might lose your balance a little bit because you're going straight up and you're going to land on one foot, it's actually easier when you've got some momentum going with you in a half circle. So ready, step, step, I'm going to come here, dip, now I'm going to bring up my upper body at the same time, and kick up my leg. Okay, so one more time, let's go ahead and use our arms this time. So ready, step, step, now arms are back here, swing your arms and throw them up, or out to the side. One more time, step, step, dip, arms and throw, and that's going to really, with the arms, that's going to be extra weight to pull you up into the air. You don't really jump, you?re going to jump a little bit off the bottom leg, but how you get into the air is mostly upper body and leg.
