Modern Dance Combo Moves: Part 1

Hello! My name is Connie Hale and thanks for joining me here at expertvillage.com. Today we are learning some lyrical and modern dancing. Today we are learning some lyrical and modern dancing. Modern and lyrical dancing are really a very expressive dance. We are telling a story with your body. Usually most songs that are used for lyrical or modern dancing are ballads, the slow songs, the tear jerker's because that is where you can really get your emotion out through your face and your body. I am going to show you a simple combination to start off. It is going to be combination number 1 to start the dance off. We are going to start sitting on the ground, one leg is tucked, other leg is bent up and we are going to fold our body up and over onto a knee. We are going to bring it up, right arm leads, up , follow it up, left arm comes up. So again it is like unfolding a flower. We start in position here. Just pointed, folded over like a flower. Right arm comes up, joined by the left arm and lean back pushing to the ground. From here we are going to lean up onto our right hand. Both feet are going to join each other on the side. Going to go into a side plank position. Feet joined to the side and we push up. Hold it here and slide it down. Let's go through that one more time. We just fold it up and back. We come up into a side plank, up hold it and flip over onto your stomach. Feet slide back and down. You are pushing yourself out with your hand that was supporting your. Let's go through that one more time. We are folded, we come back 2, 3 and up. We push up, catch it,l slide it down and flat. From here you are going up on your knees and up, we push up, catch it, slide it down and flat. From here you are going up on your knees, scoop them in and now we are ready for the next step.
