Hi! I'm Mike Elder the general manager and head coach for the Miami Fencing Club; that's www.miamifencingclub.com. We meet weekday evenings in South Miami and Saturday afternoon at Miami Day College. Fencing is the Western martial art. It provides an excellent low impact aerobic workout for athletes from age 8 to 80. My student Nautia and I are going to demonstrate practicing an attack. She is going to learn how to make what is called a beta tap where she sharply routes against the plate of my foil to move the blade away from her also to surprise me, to shock me into reacting and then she pursues her attack. It's called a beat attack. Okay, let's try it. I even throw like this after her signal to beat. Signal for her to beat, here's a lunge; pop, pop, pop, good.
