Taking Breath for Singing

Hello, my name is Yessenia Balan, and on behalf of Expert Village, I'm going to talk about the proper techniques for singing. So we're going to do some exercises to show you how to optimize your breathing, and the breathing is a very important aspect of singing. It can be as important as being on the proper tone. So, pay close attention. A very simple breathing exercise is simply, take a deep breath in. Now, the problem with just taking a deep breath in is sometimes we see a lot of people that, think a deep breath is raising up your shoulders or doing some kind of movement. But that's not necessarily an indication that you're breathing correctly. Proper breathing, again, will actually show the stomach, or abdominal section protrude out. So I'm going to demonstrate by breathing deeply and I'm going to put my hand here so you can actually see the movement as the air is coming in. First, I'm going to take all the air out. Then breathe in. I'm going to do that one more time and I want you to pay close attention to this area again. Take all the breath out. Breathe in. Were you able to see that? Now it's very evident because I tried to expel all the air. You're not going to necessarily expel all of the air when you're singing. But, that's a good indication of whether or not you're breathing correctly for optimal singing.
