Welsh Christmas Traditions

Today we're talking about Christmas traditions from around the world. In Wales, they basically keep with the same traditions that they do in England and that we keep here in the United States. Christmas stockings, holly, mistletoe - all of those old favorites are very common in Wales. In Wales actually very big, big-time into Christmas carols. They carol all the time throughout the season. They go caroling from door to door. On Christmas morning, they wake the town up caroling. As they sing at every window and every door, they are invited into the homes of the townspeople to celebrate with a nice warm cup of cider. In the churches they sing carols with the harps. Then on Christmas Day, actually most of the day is spent with great anticipation in the town square to see just who won the carol of the year award, if you will. Basically, everybody submits a new Christmas carol and then it's voted on and somebody wins and it becomes a traditional Christmas carol that is then sung, I guess indefinitely, forever I suppose. Another tradition, Welsh tradition is taffy making. They're very big on the taffy, it's homemade. They make it out of brown sugar and whatever else goes into taffy, I'm not exactly sure what but, it is a very big part of their Christmas tradition. As you can see, they seem like very fun people, the Welsh, and it seems like a very fun place, Wales seems like a very fun place to spend Christmas.
