Making a Calyx with Gum Paste
In this clip we're going to be adding a Calyx to our rose bud we just made. Now a Calyx is a nice touch that adds a realistic touch to your roses. It?s not always necessary if your roses are going to be sticking into a cake, an iced cake. But in case you want to add one, this is a Calyx cutter and it came with a rose set that I got at a craft store. And you just roll out a piece of green gum paste, cutting it out. Bring over your little petal pad, and we're going to elongate by using our ball tool. Starting at the center and pushing out. We're going to pick it up and hold it in our hand and put a little dab of egg white in the center .Taking our rose bud, go right through the center of that and push it up to the top. And we're just going to dab a little bit of egg white, an about halfway down is where we're going to touch going all the way around to each piece. You can bend them back as you go along. And that?s how you add a Calyx to your rose bud.
