This is Jose Caban. Mac OSX, Reason, and Q bass are registered trademarks of their respective companies and I am in no way affiliated with Apple, Propellerhead or Steinberg. Okay. So what we're going to do now is, we're going to make the drums for this beat. Now there's no right or wrong way to make a beat. I'm just picking to make the drums first because I think it's going to be easiest for this tutorial and that's the way I have it in my head. I think, for the bass, we're going to need something that's got like- every drum has a basic bass, snare, and hat. Now that's what you have basically to every drum that- in any song, really. So let's start with our bass drum. Thump thump thump. Something like that. Thump thump thump. So what we're going to do is we're going to go into Reason. We're going to find a drum sound that we like. We're going to load it in to Reason, and then we're going to go ahead in the bass drum here and we're going to activate a couple numbers in the sequence to give us that beat we want, which is going to come out like this: thump thump thump thump thump. Okay, so now we've got, right? It's loaded in there. It's looped there. It's put into a sequence that's going to play that order. Thump thump. Okay. Now we need a snare. Typically your snares are on your off-beats, on your two and on your four of every measure. So, we've got our bass drum on one, three. Right? So now we're going to put our snare on two and four. Two, four. Two. So think of that as a snare. Kah. Kah. Right? Kah. Kah. Right? Okay, so now let's go ahead, find a snare we like, load it into Reason. And then what we're going to do is we're going to go ahead, click on here and put the numbers in there. As you can also in Reason, each bar is broken up into four segments. Now you can split the equation and do different things messing with different knobs, but we're keeping everything simple here. So we're going with four-four for everything. So, we're going to put our 'kah" on two - which would be the five - and on the four - which would be the thirteen. And when we activate it, we get something like this. Now we got our snare in there, right? Now the last part of any real beat, of any standard beat, is going to be your high hats. So, your high hats are things that are going...Okay? We're going to find a hat we like, we're going to load it in. And we're going to put a pattern in that we want and we're going to hear something like this. Now this one's going...Now I changed it up a little because I don't want it to just be playing. So it's going to be going 'tat tat tat' for the first part, all the way through. But when it gets to the second part, it's going to go.... Okay, just a little alteration in there. It gives a bit more flavor to what you're trying to do.
