On this same piece we have a drawer that has some veneer problems. The veneer for the most part is here. We've got one section that has been broken off and it's gone. So what we want to do is, we want to repair this. The first thing we're going to do is cut out that old, bad veneer and get some nice, clean edges. And because this wants to flop around on the desk all the time, we're going to put a little clamp here. Just to hold it so it won't fall over on us. Here's where we'll going to need a razor blade and our straight edge. It's already got a fairly straight cut, so I'm going to go back through here with a razor blade and smooth it out a little bit more. Come back at a slight angle, make several passes, several light pressure passes because you don't want to go farther than you have to and damage the surrounding veneer. After you've cut through, you're going to take the chisel and just work off those pieces, those rough edges. There's also a residue here of old glue, dried glue. We want to get that off too. We want to get a nice, clean surface for our glue to grab and the new veneer. So once we get all the old stuff scraped off, we're getting ready for the application of the new veneer.
