Song Presentation: Musical Theater Audition Tips

On behalf of expertvillage.com, my name is Paul Louis and today I am going to give you musical theatre audition tips. We talked a little bit about presentation of a song without breaking it down, like a monologue almost and checking out the highs and lows of that particular song so that you can bring you acting skills into the singing of that song. You want to perform the song versus singing it. When you sing the song or perform the song for your audition, don’t move around too much. Plant yourself and you can move around a little bit but you don’t want to be all over the stage. It’s not a dance number that you are doing. You are auditioning with your song so you will want to find focal points in the room. If you are singing to some type of character, see that character and find a focal point in the room where you are singing to that character and maybe break away every now and then to sing different parts of the song but always come back to that character. Again, don’t make eye contact with the producer, director or anybody in the room because it may make them uncomfortable; sing over their heads. It is very important musical, theatre presentation. Presentation is everything.
