How to Play Drum Accents

This segment is about accenting. Accents are very important. They change the sound or the rhythm of a piece that you're playing. Listen to this. Accenting means hitting a little bit harder on a stroke. That's an accent. A couple of exercises you can get started with would be to do your right, right, right, right, left, left, left, left with an accent on the first note. Like that. Notice how the accented stroke comes up higher and all the others remain right there. This is very important; it's going to help with your technique, how to hold the sticks properly and all that. It's combined together in this. If you have good control of your drum sticks, then accents shouldn't be a problem. If you're not holding your sticks correctly, it's going to be a problem, so make sure you're holding your sticks correctly when you practice these. Higher up for the accent, all the other strokes down here.
