In this segment we're going to take a look at the solo from "Wake Me Up When September Ends" by Green Day. Let's take a look. We're going to start off on the twelfth fret of the G string and the B string with our ring and pinkie. Okay? We're going to go back and forth between these two. So it goes, G, G, B, G, G, B, G, B. We're going to do the same picking pattern, but we're going to use our middle finger to go to the eleventh fret of the G string. So, it's the eleven and twelve now. Same picking pattern for the next bit, but we're going to slide both these fingers up a string to the twelve and thirteen. All together, it sounds like this. Of course you play it smoothly. (Audio demo) The next phrase we're going to bring our index finger to the twelfth fret of the G string and our ring finger to the fifteenth fret of the B string. Hit it four times, slide our index finger down one fret to the eleventh fret but we leave our ring finger in the same place. Okay? All together it sounds like this. (Audio demo) Repeat it. This time, you hit this position eight times. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. Slide your finger down for eight more. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. Slide it back up for eight more and back down for eight. All together the riff sounds like this. (Audio demo) And, that's the basic few parts of this song. You've got the solo, you've got the acoustic intro and verse, the acoustic chorus, you've got the electric distorted version of the verse, and the electric distorted version of the chorus. Put those all together, in sequence, and you'll have everything you need to play that song. Thanks for watching. I hope you'll join me next time. Take care.
