Mixing Grain Color for Wood Scratch Repair

We got the surface that's dry there; we've got the base color in. Next thing we're going to do, look closely, you can see grain, actually grain running in this direction, little black streaks in it. That's part of the glaze and things that we did earlier on the sample board. It also details the area, and is also a great way to hide a repair. You can take that, and work with it, and make your repair, part of it. So we're going to fake that graining in right now. First what we're going to do, is select the powders we are going to use. Right now what I want to do is go with a little bit of black, little bit of the dark brown, we're going to concentrate those two in equal amounts and find out what the right balance is that we need, and match the surrounding area here. This pretty important, because we want to make this repair go away, so in order to do that, we have to get this color as close as possible. When your eye glances across this, it's almost invisible. Again the original burn in with the dent didn't break color; we don't have to do anything with that so far. All we have to do is leave that one alone for now; we'll catch up with it in the end. Right now we're still concentrating on our big divot over here. So we'll continue on in just another second when this dries a little bit more.
