Hair Pins in an Afro

Hello, my name is Sunnie Brook. I am the owner of Reveal Salon in San Luis Obispo, California and on behalf of Expert Village I'm going to demonstrate a fake afro. OK, now what we are going to do is apply our hairspray. Which you want to make sure the hairspray is a very soft mold-able hairspray and not too hard or crunchy. So, a medium to soft hairspray is ideal for the situation. And when you spray hairspray, don't spray too close because you will get spots that are wet or harder than the rest. So, we want to make sure its very, very even. So, we're going to step back and go ahead and mist the hair. So, now the next step is taking our hairpin placing the legs up towards the ceiling. Sticking them up in the hair. And you can place the hairpin as close to the scalp or as far away, depending on your desired style. So, if you want to place it closer, you're going to have a much more compact sort of fro. If you want to kind of exaggerate it, and have a bit more drag, it's going to give it a little bit more of a feel kind of a flat surface on top and then a bit more of a strong curl around the perimeter. That's a very...if you want to have more of a drag it's a very vintage sort of style. But for Jesse, I'm going to give her kind of an over top, over the top fro. So, I'm going to go ahead and place it pretty close to the scalp. OK, then what we are going to do is fold the legs down like this and go ahead and weave the hair in and out of the hairpin. So, going under and over, under and over. So, just weaving in and out of the legs. It's very, very easy. It's all the little tiny things that add up that make the end results look good. In and out. And, make sure you don't pull the hair too tight because these legs are going to get really, really narrow you're going to have a difficult time getting the hair in and out, so just as you go along as the legs start closing, try to open them up a little bit wider. Going in and out.
