The FDA

The Food and Drug Administration is responsible for food labels and food claims. Food claims are statements that you see on packages such as whole grains, fat free, contains calcium, things like that. Now not all food claims are regulated by the FDA. And you can find out on their website at www.fda.gov which food claims they do regulate. The FDA also regulates a lot of the manufacturing that goes on. You see the connection here? If the food is being produced by farmers and there are manufacturing companies who want to manufacture let's say, a whole grain product, then the FDA is going to watch some of those practices that are going on with the manufacturers. Like adding food additives. So if you're interested in finding out about that you can also go to their website. So those are just some tips so that you can understand who is regulating what.
