Okay, the first thing we will need to do is unfold our fat quarters and press them so we will get a good cut when we cut with our rotary cutter and our mat. What we are doing is pressing the fabric to make it smooth and get the wrinkles out so we can cut our pieces for our quilt. When we get through pressing all of our fabric, we will move on to our cutting. When we are pressing, it is good to press on the back side of our fabric just in case there is any residue on our iron. If it gets on the fabric, then it will be on the back side and won't mess our design up. Now we are going to cut out a piece of this. This first piece that we need since we are making a 12 1/2 inch block, we will need to cut on strip 2 1/2 by 5 inches long. We will use a ruler which has markings on it that has the width and the length. And also, we will use a rotary cutter. These are very sharp and you need to be very careful with them. Also, we will be cutting on a mat, a cutting mat that protects your table or what ever you are cutting on.
