OK, well this is a Cessna 172, also known as a Skyhawk and it's pretty representative of most planes that you would fly in the rental fleet. Chances are if you enroll in a flight school, you'll be flying in an aircraft if not exactly like this one; it will be of similar performance and size. This is a four place plane that is equipped for both day and night flying. We have a pretty good navigational capabilities with the GPS inside the aircraft. It holds about three and a half hours of fuel and so we'd probably plan on being on the ground in three hours or less in order to have a reserve left at the point we arrive at our destination. For an aircraft like this and a flight from Johnson County, you could make it out to the coast in about an hour. It's usually operated below about five thousand feet and it's pretty representative of the kinds of planes you'd be learning in before you'd advance onto something more.
