When doing a press roll, it's very important to hold the sticks correctly. Normally, when we're playing drums, we want to try keep this area, right here, kind of loose, you know? We don't want to have a death grip on the drumstick. When I'm playing, anything normally, you can just sort of take the stick right out of my hand. During the press roll, kind of close this gap up and squeeze there. And by squeezing there it's going to really help a lot when you play the drum; when you want it to bounce. This is going to help you because you don't really get much in the way of a multiple bounce when your hand is loose on the stick. You get a nice double stroke but you don't get much help in this area. Ok, so, really squeeze the sticks; not too hard but just squeeze them together; squeeze your fingers together, squeeze the stick a little tighter, ya know, and you'll see that you get better bounce when you do that.
