I was really impressed how quickly she learned the Name Game. Was it because you'd already done it outside first?

Teach Your Daschund His Name

Hi! I'm Melanie McElroy with Taurus Training for Expert Village. Today we are working with daschunds. We are on part 2 of learning the name or learning how to pay attention to this Daschund. We were outside and a squirrel went by and there was no way we could get her attention, so we reduced the level of distraction by coming indoors and we are going to try to again. In this video, I hope we have some more success so you can learn how to teach your daschund her name and how to pay attention. This is Miss Bella. She is a Dapple Daschund and just a darling thing but she certainly loves those squirrels. I think she thinks there is one outside right now. I am going to get her attention by making some noise. I might have to get her attention with a treat. She is interested in the microphone now. Then I will say her name and reward her when she makes eye contact. Little puppy! Little puppy, hi! Come here. I don't want to drag her with a leash that is why I am using food as a lure. Bella. That was a cheaty look. Bella, good! Okay, excellent! So you see how she just flicked her eyes at me. That wasn't really checking in with me and asking me nicely for the treat. But the second time I had some success. Bella, good, okay! Now that time she flicked her eyes at me a couple of times and then a couple of times and then looked straight ahead so I had to use the food as a lure to get a little help. Bella, good. Okay. That time I did it right away to show her exactly what I want her to do. Bella, now I am going to wait her out because I think she knows what I want. Okay, she needs a little help. Good, okay. Little Miss Bella has shown us that a lot of dogs and a lot of daschunds need a lot of time and patience to learn to respond to their name, to learn to check in with their owner and/or handler/trainer and that they are definitely worth it. Come here little Bella.
