1/4 Note Drumming Exercise 1

Now in this figure, we're putting the rest on the third beat, and I want you to pay attention to my sticks now. Going back to holding the sticks and striking properly, when we play these exercises, we want to play with good technique, which means holding the sticks correctly, so again go back and check on that. And we want to keep the sticks moving in this up and down motion. We don't want to play like this where both sticks are always up together at the end, or down here like this where they're down together, we want to keep moving up and down. So this figure should be played like this and counted out loud as well, 1, 2, 3, 4...1, 2, 3, 4. Okay, all this is very important so I want you to play along with me. I'm going to play for a few seconds and I want you to stay with me and try to hit right at the same time that I hit, and keep your sticks moving in the same motion as mine...1, 2, ready, go...1, 2, 3, 4...1, 2, 3, 4...1, 2, 3, 4...1, 2, 3, 4...1, 2, 3, 4...1, 2, 3, 4...1, 2.
