Sew the Outer Seam on a Blanket
Hi, welcome to Expert Village. I'm Gretchen Soares and today we're going to be making a rag blanket. Now when we got all of these little things cut but not the edge we're ready to go back to the sewing machine and do the last stitching on this. Now that we got all the inside cut we're going to go and we're going to put a border on the last 1/2" of this. We're going to stitch all the way around and we're going to use a little bit of a decorative stitch. You can do a zigzag but what we want is a stitch so that this doesn't keep rattling and disappear on us. At you get to these seams here it's important to lay them open and we're going to carry on in this fashion around the entire edge of the blanket. So that we have this nice finishing stitch all the way around the outside edge. After we finish the edge stitching all the way around we're going to cut these edges so that they stay nicely just like the rest of it. Again we're going to cut up to the stitching but not through the stitching line. When we get to the corners we're going to do what's called a box cut and come in and up and take a box out. When we get to this corner another box cut again in and over to create a box. As we finish all the trimming we're ready to go ahead and get this washed and starting the ragging effect on these cuts.
