Setting Up to Sew Applique
Hi. I'm Karina Fraley for Expert Village and we are working on our applique, our sewing applique. So I went ahead and just put my little heart on there. And I'm going to go ahead and just put a couple of safety pins in there so it doesn't fly around on me. I don't know if you can see that. And then I'm going to use just a straight stitch, a short straight stitch, and I'm using pink top thread as well as bobbin thread. And the easiest way to work with something like this, like a bag, just remove that and then we're going to take our bag and go ahead and put the handle underneath there and then slide your bag onto one of the tips there. And go ahead and if you need to pick your foot up you can to slide it under because it is a little thick. And then you put the foot down. Okay so this is a little trickier, a heart shape. If you are not, if you're just a novice and want to start with just doing something a little easier, you might want to go ahead and do a shape like a square or a rectangle. Something that's a little easier to sew. But for the heart, we're going to follow along the line. So we're going to want to take it nice and slow and also when you turn the corners, we're going to have to turn the wheel all the way toward us. We're going to have to stop, turn the wheel toward you which will bring the needle all the way down. And then at that point you can pick up and shift.
