Cutting Applique Banner Trim
Hi I'm Karina Fraley for Expert Village and we are making our Expert Village banner. And now we're going to work on the trim and we didn't have any trim come in the package that we bought so I'm going to create my own out of some flannel and I just cut a piece wider than I'm going to need and then a piece of the fusible transfer web a little bit smaller. And what I'm going to do is go ahead and iron the fabric onto the one side of the fusible webbing and then I'm going to cut the width that I want. And this is going to accomplish two things. First of all it's going to give it a little more stability, the fabric, cause this is very flimsy fabric so it's going to allow me to cut straighter and also it's going to help keep the unraveling in check so that the fabric isn't going to unravel because it's stuck then onto the fusing. So the way that you do it is you just put your fabric on top like that, on top of the rough side of your transfer paper and then you just get a hot iron and you glide it for about five to ten seconds along there. And go ahead and read the directions on whatever transfer paper you get because they do vary from manufacturer to manufacturer but go ahead and get all the little corners that youre going to need. And just glide it around. And then you just give it a couple of seconds to cool off. So we let it cool off and then we're just going to peel it off like that and now we have a little bit of a stiffer fabric, piece of fabric, and I'm going to go ahead and use my fabric scissors. Just a quick rule of thumb use your fabric scissors only for your fabric and anything paper or transfer paper anything like that youre going to go ahead and use just other scissors for it because if you cut paper with your fabric scissors it's going to dull your blade. So I'm just going to go ahead and cut straight. Okay so now I've gone ahead and I have cut my strip like that and the fusible webbing is on the back. And now I'm going to go ahead and I am going to place it right along the edge and I'm going to fuse it on there and then I'm going to clean it up. So I'll see you at the next clip and I'll show you how.
