How to Safely Get in & Out of a Canoe: Beginning Canoeing

On behalf of expertvillage.com, my name is Raymond T. Meyer of Lost Island Voyages, Miami, Florida. This is Ben and Antonio. Today we are going to touch on the subject of beginning canoing and kayaking. One of the biggest problems everyone has with canoes and kayaks is actually stepping into the canoe itself. What you should do is, before anything else, put your paddle into the canoe so you have not obstruction when stepping in. Next, you want to put both hands on other side of the boat so you have a equal balance. Then you step in by putting on foot of the centered of the raft this keeps your weight centered and prevents any tips. You want to put in your second foot and sit down as soon as possible but make sure it is quit careful. Then you ready to start paddling. If you have two people with you it is good to give the person a helping hand and hold it study while they are getting in. This applies when get in and off of the dock or from the water itself. When stepping out of a canoe you want to do basically the same thing, only you want to remain seated as long as possible.
