Attaching a Rabbit Strip Leech in Fly Tying

Ok, the next step is attaching our rabbit strip. The rabbit strip is going to actually form the tail and the body of this fly; we want to figure out how long we want that tail to be first. I'm thinking about like that looks good, so what I'm going to do is grab this fur and sort of spread it out, kind of separate it. This is the stuff that's going to be going back and this is the stuff that's going to be going toward the front. I want to tie it down right there, so I'm going to kind of pinch that, kind of wrap that hide around the hook a little bit and then you really want to get that on there tight. That's why we're using the heavy thread to tie that rabbit strip down nice and tight. There's my tail. This is going to form my body. Pull this back out of the way and just wrap that thread back forward almost to the eye. Just give yourself a little room to make a nice head and whip finish it. Now we're ready for the next move.
