How Digital Keyboards Replicate Classical Instruments

Hello my name is Scott Smith here for Expert Village. What we're going to talk about right now are keyboards and some of the common characteristics of all keyboards. These two that are in front of me are considered synthesizers. Early synthesizers didn't have any read out, didn't have any display at all. You had to know what buttons you were pushing and knobs you were turning. These are much simpler, they tell you what you've got and they tell you where to find different sounds. On this keyboard I've got volume control. I've got a pitch control, and this is with a wheel. On this one it is a joystick that's used to change the pitch. I can scroll through different sounds by hitting different buttons. Here's a piano sound. Here's an organ sound. All keyboards will allow you to change the sounds. Inside I can also change the effects. I can have echo and reverb and all of them are going to have outlets in the back of them that allow you to plug it into an amplifier or to actually interface with the keyboard to your computer. This is common among all keyboards now.
