Preparing Boppy Cover Material for a Zipper
Hi. Welcome to Expert Village. I am Gretchen Soares with Butterfly Boutique. Now we need to get ready for putting our zipper in. Since we already decided that we want this to be washable. We?re going to make sure it that comes off easy. So we need to put a zipper in. I?ve chosen to use an invisible zipper because it buries in very nicely and you have less zipper show. Which also means you have less chance of a child catching their finger on the zipper. Getting scraped. Or anything like that. We also, because it?s an odd shaped we want a long zipper. We want it to open pretty much the fullback side. We don?t want anything short because we wouldn?t be able to get the pillow in properly. So we want a nice wide opening space on it. So that?s why we?ve chosen a long invisible zipper for this project. If you do not have access to a surger then you?re going to want to take the seam, fold it just a little bit and we?re going to zigzag the edge of it. So that it gives a nice clean finished seam. A wide zigzag it is just fine. It doesn?t have to be small. By doing this we are finishing the edge of the fabric so that the, the raw edge is not going to get caught in the zipper. OK, if you have access to a surger or an over lock machine it?s a far simpler and quicker way to finish the seam. An over lock machine is what used in commercial manufacturing to finish all edges. So what we?re going to do, Is we?re just going to put this in. And this machine actually cuts the fabric as it stitches. So it gives you a very, very clean finish.
