Gainer vs. Back Tuck

OK now before we get into the step by step breakdown of the gainer, it's important to note that there is a back tuck and a gainer. And typically, although a gainer is any movement really that moves forward and still gains momentum continuing to move forward while your body is going backwards, something like that, there's also a back tuck, which is slightly different. Typically what people term as a back tuck is jump up and spin and rotate backwards in the same place. And tucking both legs, tucking both knees up at the same time. And I'll give you a demonstration of the back tuck. Basically it's like this. And from a side angle we can also see that you go straight up like so and you tuck in. The difference is you could still run and bring both in, but in terms of gainer of what we're practicing or learning today, we're going to be kicking out, kicking out and having the right leg kick out first and the left leg follow second. Therefore, although we both land at the same time, the tuck is a little bit more straight on and you land with both feet together or slightly apart, which is both OK, but the gainer, the legs are definitely further apart and the legs follow one after the other. You're also kicking out and arching, whereas the back tuck you go straight up and you tuck your body in and your back is a little bit more straight. So the techniques of how to do the two are slightly different. Now that you see the differences, there's definitely some things that you can play around with but for today we're going to go the breakdown of how to do the gainer.
