Before we go ahead and put our snare drum on I've already added the lower high hat cymbal and I'm going to go ahead and add the top cymbal here. And I like to keep my cymbals about a little less an inch apart, and that gives me the sound that I want. So the next step is going to be to put the snare drum in. Now the snare drum ideally is going to be half way between your high hat and your bass drum depending on whether you play this way with your right hand on the high hat, or this way with your left hand on the high hat. It will make a little bit of a difference, but it shouldn't be that much of a difference. So my snare drum right in the middle here, I've got it. I'm going to place it in, and there it is. Now this is a good height for me. I have it tilted towards me just a little bit and this is going to be optional depending on how you play. If you play traditional grip with your left hand on the snare, you might actually have the snare drum tilted a little bit away so you can play that way. I play open handed, and with my left hand on the high hat, so what I do is have it at just slightly tilted and about this height and it lets me play the rim as well as the center. I can really play all over it and it still gives me great access to my high hat. So mess with the height. What you don't want to do is be slouching over to hit it, you also don't want it to be so high that you can't play any rim shots.
