Using a Marver for Glassblowing

Hi! I’m Jim McKelvey with Third Degree Glass Factory in St. Louis. You can check us out on the web at www.stlglass.com. Today, we’re going to learn about glassblowing for expertvillage.com. So now that the glass is hot, let’s center it by using the marver. To begin with, you always marver the back of the piece first. So I’m going to marver the back here and get it even. Notice, I put my hands below the level of the marver to even that piece out. Then as the back starts evening out, I can even out the middle, and finally, even the tip. That’s the way, in general, to use the marver. You start with the back, address the middle, and finally you work on the tip. The reason you do that, of course, is because if you even the tip first, and the back was out of whack, then you even the back you knock the tip off when you fix the back.
