Why Learn Measuring Techniques for Fashion Design?

So, you would say, "Why do I need to know these measuring techniques?" For a number of reasons. Measuring is an exact thing and it's all about getting it correct. When you take those measurements and apply them to garments they are correct and will fit perfectly, For example, if you are an actor and you need to put measurements on your size charts. It's always a good idea to put the right measurements on the size charts, or an accurate measurement on the size chart. Or, if you are going to be ordering a dress from a dress maker, let's say for your wedding, you would definitely like it to be accurate. So, I will go over step by step, every single measurement that you might need to apply to a pattern. Whenever I measure myself of a client I start with this little picture. It's very simple and I fill in every single measurement from there. And, as I am measuring myself and demonstrating how to do it, I will be filling in different measurements on this little character that I have drawn for myself. This is a good visual because when you have a list of numbers it tends to get confusing, I think, once you've measured your entire body. Here you'll have a map and you'll know exactly where each measurement is. Then if you take it to somebody it will translate, or if you?re speaking about yourself you will remember, 'Oh this measurement is for this part of my body.' So, we'll be filling in this little girl.
