Picking Knitting Needles

Hi. I'm Jeanette White on behalf of Expert Village and today we're going to talk about what kind of knitting needle to buy and why. There's so many different ones out on the market. These are bamboo and they're circular. And you can see here that this part is wood and this part is plastic. This is probably the least expensive needle you can buy. And they're good for beginners because they're very, very slow. The stitches do not slide very quickly over this wooden part. And they're very inexpensive so this is a good one for you to begin with. This needle is also circular and you can see here, let me show you why, they're connected by a cord. So you can knit things that are circular if their large like these hats. But then when you get up to the top here you need to move to what's called double pointed needles. Double pointed needles come in a set of five. And their purpose is so that you can knit a small area that would get too small for these circulars. Then there's a whole variety of specialty needles. These are hand carved. They're white birch and as you can see the ends are quite adorable. And this wood, the stitches slide a little faster than they do on the bamboo ones but not quite as fast as they do on the metal ones. We at Piper's will exchange needles so that you can decide which needle you like the best. So it's a personal thing. You won?t find any two knitters that usually like exactly the same thing. But come on in and give it a try and we'll find a needle that works the best for you.
