Hi, I'm Jeannette White on behalf of Expert Village and Piper's Quilts and Comforts in Sugarhouse. Today we're going to be doing a three needle bind off. This is a wonderful technique to learn, because it will sew a vertical seam on a shoulder and it will also do a bind off at the same time. A lot of times when you're doing a seam that goes across the shoulder, it's very hard to get it to look smooth and even. And this is a way you can do it and it's just going to look terrific. So, let me show you how. Let's say that this would be your back and this would be the front of your sweater, and you're at a shoulder across here. So, I am going to put the two needles together and I've got my wrong sided together here. Now you can do this with wrong sides together or right sides together, depending on what you want to achieve. I'm going to insert my needle into my first stitch right here, and then the second one right here. I'm going to knit those two together, and pop them off, and put them onto my right hand needle. Now I'm going to do the same thing again. And I'm going to wrap this around, bring it through, and pop it off. Now I have two stitches that I have knit together from these two needles here, and I'm going to do a usual bind off method of pulling this one over that one. So let me do a few stitches here and then you can see what the end result looks like. It's very smooth and very professional. And this is very easy to do. It will take a little bit of practice. And usually you want to use double pointed needles, which is what I'm using here, because when you're using straight, long needles or circular needles it gets a little bit too awkward in holding them. The double pointed needles are going to give you a little bit better control. So let's take a look at this. You can see here, this would be my wrong side, but how lovely it looks with this nice braided edge. Now I turn this over, and you can see that it has bound that off and joined that seam together. And that's how you do a three needle bind off.
You must do it all, and you do it great too!
