M1 Knitting Stitches

Hi, I'm Jeanette White on behalf of Expert Village from Piper's Quilts and Comforts in Sugar house. Today we're going to be doing what?s called an M1. You may find it in your directions, and it?s going to be an increase. And M1 is the least visible of all increases. You can do this and never know where you actually did it. So lets get started and I'll show you how to do this. I'm going to knit three to four stitches down, because we don't ever want an M1 to be the beginning or the ending of a row. You can see right here there's a little bridge of yarn that goes between the previous row on the last two stitches. So I'm going to pick that little bridge up, and I'm just going to pop it right onto my left hand needle. Now I'm going to treat that as a stitch. And I'm going to insert my needle into the bottom of it and just knit it the way you normally would. This is a great way of doing an increase without having it be visible. And there's my M1 right there. You'll find that this is done a lot in the shaping on sweaters. On the side shaping. And that's how you do an M1.
