Job Hunting Tax Tips
Hi, I'm Tom Choisnet, enrolled agent. This particular segment is regarding "per diem". It's commonplace for construction workers who travel and government workers and other corporate people to get a per diem allowance for their travel, and they need only show that they're in the area, or that they have traveled. The present amounts for low cost areas is $107 per day for lodging, $45 per day for meals to a maximum of $152, and the high cost limits are $179 for lodging, $58 for meals, for a maximum of $237. That's a good way to get some tax-free income, and many companies are structured that way, so you might want to look at your company's organization and see if that might apply to you. There are many areas of per diem that's greater than the low cost standard and less than the high. There are charts on irs.gov that you may examine as they apply to you. Thank you for watching this segment.
