Hi I'm Melina Piroso and welcome to Expert Village. In this series we're going to talk about turning regular, boring old jeans into funky bell bottoms. In this step, we?re going to talk about sewing the triangle inserts to our jean. Basically we have everything pinned, exactly where we want it, and now we're going to sew along the half-inch seam allowance. You want to go ahead and start at the top of the triangle and you can see here that there's a lot of leftover fabric. You can see where I cut out the triangle and we've got a whole bunch left over here. And that's just because I had you cut an extra inch for the top and the bottom because I would rather have extra than less because if you cut too little, then you end up with a weird hole and if you leave it, eventually the whole thing is going to unravel. So now we see that we do have a lot of excess so if we want we can trim it a little and since we're trying to keep it even on both sides we probably want to go ahead and just fold it like this and maybe just do a little snip. There we go. You still want to leave half of an inch of seam allowance. We're going to try to get as close as possible to this opening part of the triangle. So whenever you start off a stitch, you sew forwards a little and then you sew backwards, then you sew forwards and then backwards again. And this is going to make sure that it doesn't unravel at the front. You're kind of sewing over your beginning stitches. And remember we kept half an inch of seam allowance so we're going to make sure that we don't go over our half an inch and as you go closer to the pins you're going to pull them out. When you get to the bottom of our pant we're going to do exactly as we did to our triangle and we're going to sew backwards a little bit, we're going to press this button right here, sew forward, press the button, sew backward. Forward. And you can go ahead and do that about three or four times just to make sure that you get those stitches in correctly.
