Filing Taxes with Capital Gains
Hi, I'm Tom Choisnet, enrolled agent. And the rules about record keeping for charity are really bear repeating because they have tightened up in this area. Our software has a little banner across that's telling us to make sure that we tell the client that they have to keep the better record for charity. They're a little bit more liberal on canceled checks than they used to be so don't be afraid to compile those and turn them in. The other records of course would be your regular receipts that we're used to and the letters from the church or any other donee. If you find you don't have a record, get a written record from the donee that is the charity itself, verifying that you did in fact make the donation. And again, a little mention on record keeping, that the non-cash contributions have to be in used condition or better. Thank you, I'm Tom Choisnet.
