Pinning Inserts for Skirt Alterations

Hi, I'm Melina and welcome to Expert Village. In this next step, we're going to pin our triangles together and prepare them for cutting. So you're going to go and since we're pinning to cut you don't want to pin on the outside. Because if you pin on the outside, as you cut this is going to start moving. So you're going to pin on the inside of your triangles. You want to pin as close to the outer edge as possible so that they don't move. I like using long pins for something like this - when you're doing a long area, instead of doing a million little pins, it's nice to have long pins. Make sure you have a secure pin up at the top. The top of the triangle is the part that most tends not to stay in place. So, you definitely want to make sure that you have two pins up at the very top here. And any place where the fabric wrinkles to much, you can just re-pin it. Just stretch it out, remove the pin and re-pin. For this particular fabric, I chose to put the pins on the seam line because this fabric is very gentle and once you've pinned it leaves a hole. So instead of putting all my pins on the inside of the triangle, I pin them on the seam.
