How to Cut Shorts into a Skirt

Hi. I'm Melina and welcome to Expert Village. In this next step, we're going to cut our shorts and prepare them to make into a skirt. So, you're going to take your fabric scissors, and you're going to cut where the seam line is. But first, you want to look inside and you want to make sure that you're not going to cut where this folded seam was. If you do that, it's going to be very bulky, it's going to be hard to cut and then when you sew it, and it's going to look like a big, bulky mess. So, I can see that this seam was folded over on this side so I'm going to cut a little bit. About one sixteenth of an inch over to the other side. I'm not cutting on the seam, I'm cutting one sixteenth of an inch as close as possible to the seam on the other side. Now, you're going to cut all the way up. Once you've made a cut, you're going to take your scissors and you're going to cut this excess seam from the inside because it's just going to get in your way when you sew. When you get to the crotch, you're going to cut right through to the other side, to the other leg and keep going all the way down, and you're going to open this up, and you're going to do the same thing and remove all this excess seam. Both legs should open up and they should be ready to add the inserts.
