Attaching Star Points for a Paper Lantern
Hi, I'm Melina and welcome to Expert Village. Today we're going to learn how to make a paper star lantern. In this next step we're going to combine all our five star points. You're going to take each point, fold along each of these dotted lines and when you get to your outer flap at the edge, you're going to fold inwards. And you can take your eraser and you can quickly go over your dots once you know everywhere that you're going to fold you can just go ahead and get rid of your dots. And you're going to take your glue stick and you're going to put a light coat of glue along this outer edge. And you don't want to get to heavy with the glue. And then you're going to fold one side of the star point across, onto this inner flap and press down really hard. Make sure it sticks well. Open it up and you see that we have here one star point. You're going to do the same thing with all of your five star points. Once you have all of your five points complete, you're going to take your outer bottom folds and fold them up. Then you're going to take your glue stick once again, and you're going to apply glue to the outer edge of each fold, and you really want to make sure that you get the ends. This is what we're going to use to stick one point to the next and if you don't have a lot of glue on your ends then it's going to come apart. Then you're going to take each star point and you're going to attach it to another star point with your folded flaps. You fold each flap over into the other star, into the other star point, press down. Now what you can do in between gluing two points together, in between gluing each point, is you can wait about five minutes. You don't have to but if you do, it's going to ensure that the glue dries. Because if you try to continue attaching on point and the glue isn't dry, they're all going to want to pull apart. If you're not going to use a light bulb and you're just going to hang this and let the sunlight pour through then you can go ahead and use pieces of tape. But if you are going to use a light bulb, you don't want to use tape because the light bulb is eventually going to heat up the tape and melt it.
