Tips for Adding Humor to a Radio Show

Hi, there. This is Eddie Matthews on behalf of Expert Village. A few tips for announcers trying to get a career in radio. In this segment, we're going to talk about the morning zoos, morning flakes. You've always got the people in the morning show, and it used to be you'd have maybe one, two people tops. Now you've got three, four, five, and on top of that, your guests and the callers as well, too. It's hard to find who the actual host of the program is. It's a real tough one, because in many cases, if you've got three distinct voices, one's got to be to funny one, one's got to be the voice of reason, and unfortunately, the other one seems to be the laugh-track. That's the worst job ever. It's one thing to say that you're on the morning show, but if you're just there to be a laugh track, try to find some other way of making a career. You've got to create your own identity. This is so crucial, no matter what type of announcer you are. Depends what you want to do. If you want to try to rely on others, you're fine being a laugh track. That's fine. But do you want to take control of this show? Be the master of the domain for that particular morning show? Have people talk to you first, then try to decide who exactly do I talk to in this morning show. You've got to be versatile. These are the - if you listen to these morning shows, listen to who is the most versatile, who's got the most life experiences, and who can add some, inject some humor. It's funny, the best humor is not rehearsed. It just happens, and that's the type of personality you want to have come out.
